My name is Peter, and this is my venture into the world of Computer Science and programming!
My background is in Digital Media, typically focusing on Audio and Video production. I studied Creative Technology in University which included classes on many types of Digital Media, including one class on Python, but I never seriously pursued it after I graduated. Keeping up with technology is my number one passion, and so I’ve always wanted to further study programming, but have often given in to the age long excuse of not having enough time.
Today is the first weekend of May, 2020. The world is in quarantine from the Coronavirus, and I have found myself furloughed from my current job with a lot of time on my hands. Alas, I think now is the perfect opportunity to dive into the world of programming!
I’ve debated where the best place to start is. My initial research has me interested in focusing on either Python or Swift to begin with, and I know that there are many excellent resources for learning both of these. However, I have come across the famous CS50 Computer Science course from Harvard online, and not only does it looks like a great place to start learning these programming languages, but it seems like learning Computer Science will help me learn how to write good quality code down the line, not just code that gets the job done at whatever cost.
My current plan is to complete the 12 week CS50 online course, followed by a more in-depth Python or Swift course afterwards. I’m going to use this site to document my progress through my learning, and hopefully into building my first projects.
Onwards to the first lecture!
